Metropolitan Opera | Opera Streams: Weekly Guide (Week 28)

https://www.metopera.org/user-information/nightly-met-opera-streams/week-28/opera-streams-weekly-guide/

It’s Puccini Week over at the Met’s Nightly Streams, beginning with an opera I haven’t seen any version of yet: La Rondine. And this version stars Roberto Alagna and Samuel Ramey! I’m not sure what I’ll make of the opera, but I’m intrigued to give it a try.

Also difficult to resist will be a rewatch of any La Fanciulla del West, my favorite Puccini opera. I am also intrigued by this casting of La Boheme, which is one I’ve not yet seen.

Have a happy week, everyone…and happy opera listening and watching!

  1. I am so happy that you saw “La Rondine” dearest mio fratello! Specially with this cast, Roberto Alagna and Samuel Ramey! I am not fan of Angela, (remember the “we don’t have a Soprano”.. moment? Lol! ) but this version was woth for Roberto and Samuel Ramey! La Rondine is not in my top favorites of Puccini, I prefer La Fanciulla del West, Tosca and La Boheme but I am so happy that you saw this version, specially because of Roberto and Sam! This week we have now “Mozart week” and we will have many treasures, “Le Nozze di Figaro” with Ildar and Peter Mattei, Cosi fan tutte with Matthew Polenzani, La Clemenza di Tito (the feel-good opera that I recommended to you with Elina Garanca as Sesto ) Die Zauberflote with King Rene, Don Giovanni with Mariusz, Luca and Stefan, the classic telecast of “Le Nozze di Figaro” with Sir Bryn Terfel (which I also adore!!! ) and I also recommend you that version because the classic telecast of Le Nozze di Figaro has the two interesting alternate arias for Susanna which was played by Cecilia Bartoli back then. The Mozart week will end with “Idomeneo”, again with Matthew Polenzani, Mozart’s other famous opera seria (it also has a happy ending, spoiler alert!) but I think that I like more La Clemenza di Tito. I wish you a very wonderful week dearest mio fratello and Happy Opera watching and listening!!!

    1. Thank you so much for this wonderful comment dear mio fratello!!! And for that wonderful update on the Mozart Week! It sounds absolutely wonderful, and there are several I’d like to make if I can…and yes, La Rondine was worth it for Sam and Roberto!! I hope you too have a beautiful week of opera listening and watching!!!!! 🧡🍁🍂
